WASHINGTON, D.C. – Kansas Congresswoman Sharice Davids joined 175 other House Democrats this week signing a letter demanding federal officials cease criminal immigration investigations of Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.
Davids represents the Kansas 3rd Congressional District and signed a letter dated Oct. 26 released by Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash. In the letter the lawmakers accused federal authorities of using an investigation into Omar’s immigration history – suspect due to different birthdates submitted on different documents and long-standing allegations that she married then divorced her biological brother under a different name to get him U.S. citizenship.
The birthdate allegations note that Omar or her father misstated her birth year on immigration paperwork when her father sought asylum in the U.S. in 1995, according to a Fox News report from Elizabeth Elkind. The disputed age matters because, according to the report, Omar would have qualified for citizenship through her father at 17, while being 18 or older would have required her to apply separately.

“We stand with Congresswoman Omar and condemn the weaponization of law enforcement against her,” the letter said, according to Fox News Digital. “You have already disgraced the offices you hold, and we demand you refrain from taking any further actions that could affect the outcome of the upcoming election.”
According to Fox, federal agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant at Omar’s Washington home Oct. 12, seizing phones, notebooks and other materials. Omar has characterized the investigation as a politically motivated attack, and the Democratic letter maintains that she became a citizen at 17.

“Congresswoman Omar is seeking reelection in Minnesota’s 5th congressional district in just one week,” the letter said, as quoted by Fox. “News of the search warrant, whether properly predicated or not, could affect voters’ decisions, which is exactly why federal law enforcement should not engage in such conduct when voters are casting their ballots.”
The signers argued that Justice Department policy discourages investigative steps close to an election when postponement would not jeopardize an investigation. They also questioned the justification for searching Omar’s home over paperwork filed by her father.
Davids’ endorsement of ending the Omar investigation reflects her traditional political partnership with “The Squad” – a group of ultra-progressive, radical Islamist-leaning congresswomen among the core of the Biden-era congressional establishment. The Kansas Informer reached out to Davids’ office for comment on the endorsement but got no response.
In 2023, Davids voted against a condemnation measure against Rep. Rashida Tlaib when Tlaib was censured for inflammatory comments targeting Israel after the Oct. 7 sneak attack by Hamas that killed 1,200 mostly unarmed Israelis. The following November, Davids again refused to support the congressional removal of Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee for similar incendiary comments.
In April 2024, Davids and Democrats tried unsuccessfully to vote down a bill that would give the president the ability to directly review sanctions against Iran after an April 13 missile and drone attack on Israel.
Now running for her fifth term, Davids, a strident congressional supporter of President Joe Biden’s agenda during his term and a reliable vote in the Demcrat caucus, is politically at odds with the majority of voters in Franklin, Anderson and Miami counties where she is never seen at unscripted appearances. Davids enjoys ample political cover for re-election in the more liberal bastions of Johnson and Wyandotte counties.
Davids has refused so far in the 2026 campaign to meet Republican opponent Eric Jenkins and Libertarian Steve Hohe in an independently moderated candidate forum and dodged similar public forums when she ran in 2024, remaining safely out of reach of any questions regarding her stances on political issues.
Fox News Digital reported that House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., has called for Omar to be jailed and deported if citizenship-fraud allegations are proven. She faces a range of felony charges among the allegations.
