Responsible Tax Relief and Reduced Spending Have Put Kansas in a Strong Economic Position
Projections by the Kansas budget office predict the state would enter deficit spending in three years despite having a $3 billion surplus in 2024.
But recent projections may disprove that estimate. According to House Speaker Dan Hawkins (R-Wichita), the state brought in almost a third more tax revenue than was projected in May.
“These latest revenue numbers clearly show that passing the comprehensive tax relief package last year was hands down the right move,” Hawkins said in a release. “When we put money back in taxpayers’ pockets, not big government, Kansas families and communities thrive. That’s why we increased that relief with additional legislation this year. I’m optimistic about where we’re heading- we’re entering the second year of a new legislative budgeting process that’s already significantly reduced spending, combined with a responsible approach to tax relief. Kansas is in a strong position as long as we stay focused on smart, conservative leadership.”
